Dennis has a passion for creating something tangible that makes the user happy every time they use the product. This passion, in combination with Dennis’ life long hobby of designing spaces, led to him studying Built Environment, where he specialized in Architecture. This ultimately led into Dennis founding Pilothouse.

Dennis wants to deliver a tangible product where the user feels happy and save. He can put all his creativity in this product. After all: if you work at something you’re passionate about, it feels like you never work a day in your life again.

Pilothouse as design studio is the first step as entrepreneur. Our goal is to grow into an organization that in-house develops projects from empty building plot to turn key real estate property. Pilothouse will have start to end control of creating the perfect product.

This will not be where we stop. During his travel around the world Dennis saw with his own eyes that having a save home is not a given. Traveling by boat gave Dennis the insights he has nowadays about how important it is to have a home where you can feel save and secure. When the time is ripe, Dennis wants to develop and build social housing in places in the world where having this save home is not a given yet. This will take place in a future Foundation that creates affordable and save housing for everybody that cannot provide it themselves.

Dennis’ experience

The first signs of the lack of a save home I experienced first person in Boavista, Cabo Verde. I drove in the back of a cab through a ghetto to travel from the airport to the ferry that would bring me to my floating home. People were living on the streets. The lucky ones lived in self made sheds, others without any place to stay. A heartbreaking sight. Due to heavy seas the ferry couldn’t dock and suddenly I was one of those people I just saw before. No security of a place to stay and the next ferry coming in four days. I didn’t feel save and worried about where to stay. Lucky for me one of the few hotels in town had a room available for €65 a night and I was happy I could afford it, but my thoughts were with the hundreds of people in the streets that couldn’t… When traveling around the world on your own boat, you always bring your save and secure home with you, but over the years I met too many people who didn’t have this.

Poverty is something that will always exist. There will always be those who are less fortunate and is something we cannot solve. A save and secure home is something we can and will provide.
